Salzburg Austria, 9-10,11
On the way from the Alps to vienna I made a quick stop in Salzburg, if you are into Mozart or Sound of Music (Melissa?), this is your town.  I personally have never stayed awake through all of SOM so to me Salzburg was a bit touristy but I was amazed how many people are addicted to that movie, I mean crazy.  I also didn't know that SOM was based on a true story.
The other big thing about Salzburg is that Mozart was born here.  The kid was a fricken genius, at 5 he was ripping the piano, he taught himself the violin at 6, when on a 3 year concert tour at 8, played for the queen and the rest is history.  This is where he was born, another Museum about him down the street actually does a better job of telling his story.  His dad was a musician so I think Mozart was learning while he was in the womb. This is a traditional Austrian dish called Bauernshmausr.... or something.  Ham, Roast Beef, frankfurt, mashed potatoes and a dumpling, yummy and as you can guess filling.  No thats not beer, its some kind of non-sweet apple juice.
The hills are alive....This is Salzkamergutt lake district outsite of Salzburg, very nice. Mozart's mom is from the town below called....Mozart (or something like that), makes sense huh.  Helmut Koll also settled here after his chancellory, sadly he left after his wife committed suicide in one of the houses on the left.
I took the rest of these pics while on, what else, the Sound of Music tour.  They dont mean much too me but every time we stopped, people broke out into song and were ooooing and aahhing.  So I took the shots for all of you SOM fans. The Americans own this one now.
Someone in SOM was dancing around in this thing they say.
This is important for SOM fans.  The character Julie Andrews plays actually went to nunnery school here but realized she liked men and hooked up with the father in SOM.  I think their age difference was a good 10 maybe even 20 years.  I didn't even know SOM was a true story.
This was my favorite part of the tour, in the summer they turn the ski hills into summer tobagan runs with some serious banks. And yes you can roll them (twice if you have great skill like me) In the states, this would be a lawsuit waiting to happen, but it was FUN!
And this is important in SOM for some reason also.
