Swiss Alps, Berner-Oberland 6-9, Sept |

I am just going to upload some pics from the alps, I shot about 175 in 3 days. No wonder it took me so long to hike the trails. I was hoping for 1 clear day and I got more than I asked for. It's here that they filmed a James Bond movie and the Eiger Sanction. I think the pictures speak for themselves. |

I stayed in this tiny town called Gimmewald, population 150, one phone booth, one Internet computer and a bunch of cows. This is their view when they wake up. |

Here is the view from the other side of the valley, the Eiger side looking back at the Schiltorn. Can you see the rocky ridge to the lower right of the picture? If you follow the top of the ridge all the way back, that's Gimmewald. Cool huh. You have two options to get there from the main train station, 1) local train-bus-tram-5 minute steep hike or 2) local train-steep funicular-30 downhill hike. I mostly chose the latter. |

Behind me are probably the 3 most famous peaks in the area, the Eiger above my head, the Monch off my left shoulder and the Jungrauch further to my left. Can you believe that there is a train going up and through all three mountains to the near top of the Jungfrou? I went up there the next day. On this day I took a tram to the top of the Schilthorn and hiked 5000 ft down. Some others and I walked all the way to the nub on the end of the ridge behind me where there is a guest book you can sign before you jump. |

Hiking to the Northwall of the Eiger. Can you believe there is a train stop half way up that rock wall. If you get in trouble climbing it, just jump on the train. |

On the way down the first day, I was chatting with these two really sweat ladies. We talked about a bunch of things and I was giving them a hard time for not doing the Jungrauch marathon that was going on. Check this out, 26 miles climbing both the Schilthorn and the bottom of the Eiger range, must be about 10,000 vertical feet. The scary thing is that they had a triathalon 2 weeks before with a mountain bike section, swim, road bike and then a long run up the Schilthorn. The marathon was so big that they needed to schedule it for 2 days. |

On top of the train line is an observatory and these cool ice caves. |

Halfway up the Eiger-Jungrauch train it gets cold and glaciated. |
